To mark national Fairtrade Fortnight (27th February – 11th March 2012), Dr Alastair Smith will be discussing his PhD research into the meaning of fair-trade policy and practice.
Overview
The talk reports on PhD research conducted into the incorporation of so-called fair trade governance into UK public procurement activity -- using the overall case study of Scotland. Research focused on how the concept of 'fair trade' is understood and operationalised by different stakeholders, and explores what implications the politics of interpretation in Scotland have for southern producers based in one of the world's least developed countries.
