Alex is an Associate member of BRASS from the Sustainable Places Research Institute (PLACE), Cardiff University. She holds a degree in Geography (University of Hull), a Post Graduate Diploma in Law (University of Glamorgan), a Post Graduate Diploma in Research Methods (Cardiff University), and a PhD from the School of City and Regional Planning, Cardiff University. 
Alex joined BRASS as a Research Associate in 2005 and was a Senior Research Associate and Research Manager from 2007-2010 primarily responsible for the workpackage themes of: Sustainable Lifestyles and Communities; and Sustainable Consumption and Marketing. Prior to joining BRASS, she worked as a research associate at the Wales Rural Observatory (responsible for the socio-economic strand of the research programme), and on a joint Cardiff University/ Forestry Commission research project on 'Forests and Forest Land in the Context of Broader Land Use and Resource Planning'. In 2003 she was awarded an ESRC Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship.

Rural Development; City-Regions; Sustainable Communities; Equine landscapes; Human-animal relationships; Sustainable Practices.

 

Research Projects

During her time in BRASS Alex worked first with Robert Lee investigating Legal Service provision in Rural Wales, and then with Gareth Enticott, on an ESRC funded project researching Biosecurity and the Regulation of Animal Health.

Alex is currently working with Julie Newton and Terry Marsden, researching Sustainable Communities.  She also continues to work with Gareth Enticott, researching biosecurity and animal health and is a member of the BRASS research group 'Towards Sustainable Food'.  Her other main area of research activity is Equine Landscapes.
