Cerys Ponting - Knowledge Exchange & Networks Manager

(and P/T Research Associate)

Career Experience and Qualifications

Cerys manages BRASS' knowledge exchange activities and its involvement in key networks. She is also seconded to Business in the Community Wales to Programme Manage their Green Business Skills work. She was a full time Research Associate at BRASS from January 2006 - July 2009 and still maintains an interest in research which she manages on a part-time basis.

She holds a BSc (Hons) in Business Administration from the University of Bath School of Management. She also holds an MSc in Social Science Research Methods (Environment Route) from Cardiff University's School of City & Regional Planning.

She previously worked with Business in the Community as a Business Development Executive & Account Manager, working with member companies to assess their company policies and strategies relating to aspects of CSR; delivering an Employee Volunteering programme and Education-Business Partnerships across Cardiff and Newport. Prior to this, she worked in marketing for a wide range of businesses.

Research Areas of Interest

Green Deal, Green Skills, Education for Sustainable Development and Global Citizenship (ESDGC), International Governance, Corporate Philanthropy, Employee Volunteering, Sustainable Communities, Social Enterprises, Producer & Consumer Responsibility, Climate change & consumer behaviour.

Research Projects

Young people and wellbeing - Working alongside Dr Julie Newton and Techniquest, Cerys helped design and deliver a series of Contemporary Science Debates on Wellbeing for 129 young people in Wales. This project was largely funded by the Office of National Statistics as part of their remit to measure national wellbeing

Climate Change and the Future of Brands - Cerys undertook a secondment with Future Foundation (a London based consumer think-tank); assessing Consumer attitudes towards Climate Change in the UK. This was a large scale project which culminated in a consumer segmentation study from a quantitative survey, a Delphi expert panel, vox pops in Brighton and Glasgow as well as 12 in depth qualitative household interviews. The project has provided interesting insights into eco-labelling, consumer responsibility, and social marketing using segmentation studies.

Electronics Project – her role was to assist with the primary fieldwork in Europe – arranging and conducting interviews with key stakeholders in the electronics industry. She also assisted in the first large scale UK-wide survey of businesses working in the electrical and electronic equipment supply chain. Work on this project is still on-going, but with further emphasis on aspects of Producer and Consumer Responsibility.
